A Vacation In Switzerland Around Lake Leman

My wife and I decided to take a weeklong trip overseas because it has been so long since our last vacation. We settled on a trip to Switzerland, where we would rent a car and see the country by driving around lake Leman (commonly known as lake Geneva).

Thanks to modern conveniences, you may book a flight and reserve a car without ever leaving your house.

We booked our flight, printed our tickets, and used our home printer to generate our rental car voucher.

We took an afternoon flight to Geneva, Switzerland. We picked up our rental car at the airport and headed south along the shore of Lake Geneva. It was becoming late, so we checked into a cozy little hotel on the shore of Lake Nyon in nearby Nyon.

When you’re near a body of water, whether it’s a lake or the ocean, you feel a sense of calm, pleasure, and strength. For this and other reasons, we opted to go the long way around the lake.

There was never a cloud in the sky or a breath of wind the entire time we were away.

We did not make any hotel reservations in advance of our trip. We just drove around and, since there are so many options, began our hotel search in the late afternoon. Swiss hotels tend to be on the pricier side, but they’re also pretty nice, often include breakfast, and are of a good standard overall.

A Visit to Vevey

While this vacation had numerous memorable moments, I’ll focus on two. Vevey, Switzerland, is the first. We got there at lunchtime, stayed the night, and then left around lunchtime the next day. This was our second time visiting this picturesque location.

There is a beautiful promenade in Vevey that runs along the shore of the lake, and you may spend hours there taking in the sights and sounds of the water, the mountains, the boats, the swans, and the strolling locals and tourists.

Staying in Vevey for a bit allows you to recharge your batteries, take in some beautiful scenery, and rejuvenate your spirit.

While taking an early morning stroll down the seafront, we happened upon a display of vintage automobiles. There were a wide variety of vintage automobiles, and they were all in excellent shape. Only in ancient movies, especially movies set in the 20th century, can you see cars like the ones we photographed. I found out they have another event regarding these automobiles next year after looking out their website.

A Visit to Zermatt and the Mattterhorn

Mattehorn, Switzerland’s tallest peak, is the second highlight I’d like to discuss. Clouds prevent the peak from being seen, or so I’ve been told. When we visited, though, the sky was blue, and its peak shone in all its glory.

We drove quite a ways from the lake to get to the Matterhorn.

We pulled into Tasch, a tiny town not far from Zermatt, and parked in a huge lot close to the railway station.

The train ride to Zermatt, a village at the base of the Matterhorn at an elevation of around 1600 meters, took around 15 minutes.

We arrived too late to climb, so we were told to come back the next day. We retraced our steps back to Randa, where we slept at the Matterhorn Golf Hotel, a lovely establishment operated by a kind and welcoming Italian couple.

In the morning, we drove back to the Tasch railway station and boarded the train to Zermatt after a fascinating discussion about the web with the hotel’s proprietor, Maurizio.

We walked through Zermatt, a town filled with hotels, restaurants, and stores, before catching the cable car to the peak. Changing cable carts three times along the journey, we were treated to a breathtaking panorama of the city below and the surrounding mountains.
