Step Into the Magic: Waddesdon Manor’s Tale-Infused Christmas Celebration

This Christmas at Waddesdon Manor promises to be nothing short of magical, as the historic estate transforms into a fantastical wonderland where classic tales come to life. Step into a world of enchantment, where new decorations inside the house and dazzling light displays outside are sure to delight visitors of all ages.

Inside the Manor

Waddesdon Manor, renowned for its timeless elegance, takes on a new identity this festive season. The Manor becomes a whimsical wonderland, adorned with themed displays inspired by three classic tales: Alice in Wonderland, the Snow Queen’s kingdom, and the timeless adventure of Peter Pan to Neverland. For the first time since 2019, visitors can explore the Bachelor’s Wing, adding an extra layer of grandeur to the experience.

As you navigate the elaborately decorated rooms, be prepared to be captivated by the Mad Hatter’s tea party, the magic mirror from the Snow Queen, and Captain Hook’s treasure cave. These childhood tales are reimagined with sparkling installations, immersive soundscapes, and mesmerizing light displays. The creative genius behind these displays includes Jane Le Bon Creative and the intricate paper sculptures of Nathan Ward.

Outdoor Magic

Step outside, and the magic continues with spellbinding animated projections on the Manor’s façade, a brand-new addition for 2023. Artist Jamie Shiels, celebrated for his work at Buckingham Palace, The National Gallery, and the 2012 London Olympics, brings fantastical, festive scenes to life. These projections seamlessly blend classic tales with unique treasures from Waddesdon’s collection, showcasing the Manor’s extraordinary architecture.

Garden Illuminations

As dusk falls, follow a new light trail through the Aviary gardens. More interactive than ever, the trail features mesmerizing installations and seasonal favorites. Walk beneath a glowing canopy of orbs, marvel at twinkling starbursts, and discover larger-than-life 3D birds adorned with fairy lights. Interactive tap boxes let you change the color of the Manor’s South Front, while the Parterre provides a perfect picture spot with giant shooting stars. In collaboration with light art pioneers Luminism, the Coach House at the Stables hosts artwork by local schoolchildren, inspired by ‘The Lights That Dance in the Night’ by Yuval Zommer, including willow lanterns of wolves and puffins and a glittering overhead display of the Aurora Borealis.

Christmas Feast and Festivities

No Christmas celebration is complete without delicious food, and Waddesdon has you covered. The popular Food Village makes a return, offering delectable festive treats to take away and enjoy while exploring the grounds. For a more indulgent experience, book a seasonal afternoon tea at the beautifully decorated Manor Restaurant, featuring mince pies and turkey & cranberry sandwiches crafted by the talented in-house chefs.
