Designed by Martin Selig, the 1.5 million square foot Columbia Centre, 76 stories was finished in 1985. Sporting 8,800 windows, 2,100 hydronic heat pumps, 48 lifts and 6 escalators, the building is dressed in smoked tempered glass and Carnelian stone. One of the strongest and safest buildings in the Pacific Northwest, Columbia Centre can resist earthquake and hurricane force winds because to the many technical advancements needed for such a massive project—viscoelastic dampers and triangle shaped bracing.
